We match warm, vetted companions with elderly people who live alone or feel isolated — for regular visits, outings, errands and genuine human connection.
Why families choose CompanionFirst
A CompanionFirst visit isn't a care call. It's a friend coming round. Conversation over tea, a walk in the park, help with errands — genuine human connection that makes a real difference.
This means we do not require CQC registration and can launch quickly — but it also means we are crystal clear on our role. For medical needs, we will always signpost to the right service.
Warm, friendly visits at home. Conversation, a cup of tea, shared activities — your loved one has someone to look forward to seeing.
Walks in the park, trips to a café, garden centre visits, local events — companions accompany clients out into the world.
Help with the weekly shop, collecting prescriptions, posting letters — practical support alongside companionship.
Accompanying clients to GP appointments, hospital visits or social groups — so they never have to go alone.
Cards, puzzles, reading, gardening, reminiscing — we match companions to shared interests so every visit is genuinely enjoyable.
From your first call to the first visit, we make it easy. Most families have a companion matched and visiting within two weeks.
Tell us about your loved one — their personality, interests, routine and what they need. No forms. Just a conversation.
We hand-pick a companion based on personality, shared interests and location. The right fit matters more than anything else.
A relaxed, no-pressure first meeting. If the connection isn't there, we find a different match. Simple as that.
Your loved one sees the same companion every time — consistency builds trust, and trust becomes friendship.
We invoice monthly in arrears — you only pay for visits completed. Cancel with two weeks notice.

"Mum hadn't laughed like that in two years. The first visit I thought she'd be nervous — she didn't want me to leave because she was so deep in conversation. That's CompanionFirst.
Every other agency also offers personal care, nursing and complex care. We do one thing: companionship. That focus means every companion we recruit, every match we make, every visit we arrange is built around connection — nothing else.
No CQC registration. No clinical complexity. Just warm, genuine companionship.
We match on personality and interests — not just availability.
Enhanced DBS, two references, interview, induction — every companion.
Consistency matters. Your loved one sees the same face every visit.
Monthly invoicing. Cancel with two weeks notice. No contracts.
We respond to all enquiries within 24 hours. Always a human on the other end.
We currently operate across Kent and Essex with companions based locally in each area. London and further expansion coming soon.
Everything you need to know before getting in touch.
A carer provides personal care — washing, dressing, medication, toileting. A companion provides social and emotional support — visits, conversation, outings, errands. CompanionFirst companions are not carers. We do not provide any personal care whatsoever. This is a deliberate choice that keeps our service warm, human and non-clinical.
Yes, absolutely. Every single CompanionFirst companion holds an Enhanced DBS certificate before they make their first visit. We also take two references, conduct a personal interview, and put every companion through a two-hour induction before they meet any client.
Most families have a companion matched and visiting within two weeks of their first assessment call. In some cases we can move faster. We respond to all enquiries within 24 hours.
We rematch. No questions asked. The right connection matters more than anything else we do. If the first companion isn't the right fit, we find a different one. This happens and it's completely normal — personality matching is an art, not a science.
Our hourly rate is £28–£35/hr depending on your package and location. We invoice monthly in arrears — you pay for visits completed, not in advance. There are no registration fees, no setup costs and no hidden charges. See our pricing section for full package details.
No. We invoice monthly and you can cancel with two weeks notice. We want families to stay with us because they love the service — not because they're locked in.
No. CQC registration is only required for services that provide personal care — washing, dressing, medication and so on. CompanionFirst is purely non-medical companionship, which is explicitly exempt from CQC regulation. This is confirmed by CQC guidance on regulated activities.
In some cases, yes. Elderly people who qualify for local authority support may be able to use Direct Payments or Personal Budgets to fund companion visits. We work with social prescribers and local authority teams who may refer clients directly. Contact us and we can advise based on your situation.
No pressure. No commitment. Just a warm conversation about what your loved one needs and whether CompanionFirst is the right fit.
Tell us a little about your situation and we'll be in touch within 24 hours.
